A Lenten Prayer

Blessed are you, Lord our God.
In these forty days
lead us into the desert of repentance
that in this pilgrimage of prayer
we may learn to be your people once more.
In prayer, fasting and service,
bring us back to your heart.
Open our eyes to your presence in the world
and lead us
to the radiant splendour of your mercy.
Stay with us on our journey,
for without you we are lost and will perish.
To you alone be dominion and glory
for ever and ever

An Easter Prayer

O Lord Jesus Christ, help us to remember,
that you are with us in every time of perplexity
to guide and to direct;
that you are with us in every time of sorrow
to comfort and console;
that you are with us in every time of temptation
to strengthen and inspire
that you are with us in every time of loneliness
to cheer and to befriend
that you are with us even in death
to bring us to the glory of your resurrection.

Let nothing ever separate us from you
so that in your presence
we may meet life with gallantry
and death without fear.
Alleluia! Amen.

A Prayer for Unity

Heavenly Father,
whose will it is
that your Church should be one visible body
so that the world might see and believe;
draw us and all your people closer to him
who is the one Head, Jesus Christ,
so that we may come closer to one another;
and unite us all in common concern
to share the Good News with others
and further your kingdom here on earth
in the name of Christ our Lord.

Prayer before a Crucifix

Behold, O kind and most sweet Jesus, I cast myself on my knees in your sight,
and with the most fervent desire of my soul, I pray and besseech you
that you would impress upon my heart lively sentiments of aith, hope and love
with a true repentance for my sins and a firm desire of amendment,
while with deep affection and grief of soul, I ponder with myself and mentally contemplate
your five most precious wounds, having before my eyes
that which David spoke in prophesy of you, O good Jesus,
"They have pierced my hands and my feet; they have numbered all my bones"

Prayers for Peace

God of all Nations,
you sent your Son to take away the yoke of oppression
and to reconcile those who harbour enmity.
In this time of trouble, we place all our hope in you.
Protect us and our loved ones from those who practice violence
and keep all your sons and daughters
safe from weapons of hate.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

O God, whose love embraces the whole world,
send peace upon earth,
that nations no longer make war
and try not to destroy
but to understand each other.
Take away all bitterness and hatred
and grant that people of all colours, races and creeds
may learn to live together in peace and love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Prayer for Prisoners

Heavenly Father
we thank you for your mercy
in sending us your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
We ask for your blessing
on all those in prison right now.

Sustain the families of prisoners
with your strength and your patience.
Give peace and healing to the victims of crime
and enable us all to forgive
as we would be forgiven by you.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Prayer for Vocations

Lord, God, Your beloved Son said to us:
"Ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into his harvest".
So we come to you, offering our prayers and our sufferings
for the needs of the Church in our world today.
We pray that many will hear your call
to serve you in the priesthood, the religious life and lay ministries.
Give their families and friends
the grace to support and encourage them.
Give tho those you choose eagerness to answer your call;
humility and generosity to make you known and loved;
give them faithfulness to persevere in their dedication
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

A Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit, come to us and sanctify us.
Be in our minds to guide us to the truth;
Be in our hearts to make us love you more.
Be on our lips that by our words that we may bring others to Christ.
Be in our eyes that we may see Christ daily in those around us.
Be in our ears that we may hear God's word and keep it.

wise with yourwisdom, and lovely with your love.

A Student's Prayer

Open my mind to your grace, O Lord, as I begin my study today.
You are the source of all wisdom and truth:
so guide me along the right path
that I may persevere in my studies and scholarship.
May I learn well what I need to know;
may I understand what I need to learn;
may I remember what I need to explain.
Give to my efforts the success you would have for them,O Lord,
so that I may use wisely the knowledge I acquire
and thus live contentedly in your love and the service of my neighbour;
and in due time, may I receive by your grace, the eternal reward you have prepared for me.
I ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for those for whom we have promised to pray

O God, our Father,
we commend to your love and mercy
all those who have asked us to pray for them
and especially those whose names or petitions
are in our Parish Prayer Request Book.
Hear our prayers on their behalf
and satisfy their needs.
Whatever their problems may be,
grant that they will know the strength of your love for them
and the consolation of your saving grace.
May their faith be strong, their hope steadfast
and their love enduring.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
