St Catherine's parish covers the district of Lowton, (which is near the Lancashire town of Leigh) from its boundary with Newton-le-Willows in the South to Leigh in the North; and from Golborne in the West to Culcheth in the East. The church stands in the centre of the parish on the south side of the junction of Newton Road (A572) with the East Lancashire Road (A580). It is 17 miles from Liverpool and 16 miles from Manchester. and 2 miles east of M6 junction 23.

Most parishioners will be aware by now of the necessity of closing St Catherine's church and attached buildings due to the poor state of the electrical systems as found in the recent inspection.
